The Little Giant Is Back: Haikyu!! Fans Are Already Counting Down to 2027

The Crows are flying again. Production I.G. and director Susumu Mitsunaka have officially confirmed that Haikyu!! The Movie: VS The Little Giant — the sequel to the ¥20 billion-grossing Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle — will hit Japanese theaters in 2027, and it's not coming alone.

Two matches, one day, one tournament.

That fans are finally moving toward some of the most anticipated matches in the entire Haikyu!! story.

The movie covers Karasuno vs. Kamomedai at the Spring High quarterfinals: Hinata Shoyo finally standing at eye level with Korai Hoshiumi, the "Little Giant" who inherited the nickname that made a kid from Miyagi fall in love with volleyball. The smallest spiker in the country, settling the title. Expect Kags, Tsukki, Yams, Noya, Daichi, and Suga right behind him; yes, the Kagehina quick is going to be a problem.

The special anime, Haikyu!!: Where the Monsters Go (a.k.a. Bakemonotachi no Iku Tokoro), takes the match the film has no time to show: the Owls vs. Mujinazaka, Bokkun (Bokuto Kotaro) trading spikes with Kiryu Wakatsu, while Akaashi and Usuri duel in the setter's seat. Karasuno vs. Kamomedai Is a Very Different Kind of Battle

Before he had a proper volleyball team, before Kageyama became his setter, before Karasuno returned to the national stage, Hinata saw a short but fearless Karasuno player dominating the court. The Little Giant showed him something else. You did not necessarily need to be the tallest player on the court to become unforgettable. And now, years later, he is finally going to face another player who carries the same nickname.

The official Haikyu!! site describes the movie as the Spring High quarterfinal between Karasuno High and Kamomedai High, with Hinata and Hoshiumi at the center of the “Little Giant” confrontation.

Anyone who has followed Karasuno knows that reaching the quarterfinals is already a huge achievement. This is not the early Karasuno that struggled to qualify. This is not the team that was still learning how to trust each other. This is a team that has already survived major matches and grown through them.

Bokuto Kotaro vs. Kiryuu Wakatsu: Fukurodani Academy and Mujinazaka High School

The official announcement confirms that the special anime covers the Spring High quarterfinal between Fukurodani Academy and Mujinazaka High School, taking place at the same time as Karasuno's match against Kamomedai.

Two national-level aces. Two completely different personalities. Two ways of carrying a team.

Their relationship is one of the best examples in *Haikyu!!* of how volleyball is not an individual sport disguised as a team sport.

Bokuto may be the ace. But Akaashi helps create the conditions that allow that ace to perform.

Kiryuu Is Not Just “Another Bokuto”

It would be easy to frame the match as “popular ace vs. powerful ace.” That would miss the point. Kiryuu has his own story. His own way of playing. And his own setter relationship.
